The current reigning champion at Harrah’s New Orleans is Jean “Prince” Gaspard, but with the stiff competition, things are bound to take a major turn. At freerollslive.com we’ll bring you all the latest WSOP news and reviews so you can stay in touch with all the movers and shakers in the poker world and follow some truly awesome play.
More great poker tourneys
The Hollywood Poker Tournament, another common big money poker tournament will start off on March 20th and go on for four days until March 24th. The World Poker Tour decided to forfeit its eighth season tournament in order to give way for another big event at the Hollywood Casino in Indiana. Last year’s WSOP winner actually pocketed in excess of $10 million. A decade ago the prize money for the WSOP was not as much and is rapidly increasing over the years.
The 2003 champion is the one who perhaps stirred up the most interest and elevated the WSOP into even higher heights. He became a popular figure in televisions and in the internet all around the world. Famous people such as Matt Damon also participated in the WSOP game last year but was kicked out within the first few rounds. The prize money for the World Poker Tournament and Hollywood Poker Tournament is also in the millions of dollars. The high amounts are however justified by stiff competition present in the game.
Some other poker tournaments and events taking place this year include the 2010 Bay 101 Shooting Star which will be held at the Bay 1010 Casino between March 8th and March 14th. The 2010 Foxwoods Poker Classic Tournament will be held at Foxwoods Resort Casino between March 12th and March 28th. Two other poker tournaments coming up are the 2010 Pokerstars ANZPT Perth tournament at the Burswood Casino between the dates of March 17-21 and the 2010 GUKPT London Tournament at Victoria Casino between March 18th and March 28th.
Televised events: Full Tilt’s ‘Poker After Dark’
Perhaps one of the most televised poker shows presently is the Full Tilts Poker’s After Dark show. For a chance to get a seat at the After Dark show through Full Tilt Poker, one must first play in their site (though they do allow players from other sites during the After Dark show). After registration, one is eligible to access Full Tilt’s daily poker After Dark Sit and Go tournaments. These are tournaments offered by Full Tilt Poker in order to pick their next players to represent them in the After Dark show. One must play in one of these tournaments and win. The competition is stiff because it has a lot of pros working at a chance at the ultimate tournament. New players have no business trying out their luck in these tournaments. After winning in any one of these tournaments, an access to two weekly Full Tilt 2nd round of tournaments is granted. In other words, Full Tilt Poker holds two weekly tournaments as the 2nd round of qualifying for a spot at the After Dark show. For one to win a seat at the Full Tilt’s Poker After Dark show, he/she must be in the top nine of either of the two 2nd round tournaments to be held. Among other things, Full Tilt Poker sponsors the winners of these games by paying the $20,000 entrance fee to the After Dark show. An extra $5,000 is given for free to the players to spend during their time there. This is awarded as personal expenses fee. The winner ultimately gets to take home $120,000. It’s not easy to compete at the After Dark show and it’s common knowledge that most of the players who end up playing in the show are pros who are known to be the expert players in poker sites the world round.
